Bill S9040 has been delivered to Governor Kathy Hochul. The Governor has 10 days (not including Sundays) to approve (“sign”) or reject (“veto”) bills passed by both houses. Signed bills become law; vetoed bills do not. However, if the governor failure to sign or veto a bill within the 10-day period, the bill automatically becomes law.
By signing this bill into law, Governor Hochul will:
1. Empower pharmacists to advocate for their patients: They will be able to provide complete information about medication costs and alternatives, helping patients make informed decisions about their health.
2. Ensure fair compensation for their services: The legislation prevents PBMs from charging copayments that exceed their total submitted charges, a practice that has been putting immense financial strain on many community pharmacies.
3. Promote transparency in drug pricing: This will help patients understand their options and potentially save money on their prescriptions.
4. Support local businesses: This bill will help protect small business from unfair PBM practices, allowing them to continue to serve their communities.
This legislation will give pharmacists more tools to help them navigate these challenges.
Send Governor Hochul an email supporting this bill.
